If I Could Talk to the Animals!

Bruce and bambi...our friends feed the deer in the backyard of their rural home, so here's a picture of Bruce feeding one of them. The rest were a bit suspicious.
I tried, but they seem to be used to the man's voice, so they wouldn't
have anything to do with me.

Get away from the birdfeeder!!

I looked out the window the other day to see this fellow sitting under the birdfeeder. Don't know whether he expected to catch an unsuspecting victim, or was enjoying the seeds... the former I guess.

Eagles

Finally able to take some eagle pictures that I'm happy with.

This is kind of neat...a raven was flying overhead and I guess the eagle was "ducking".

Dorion Winter

Just a few of the pictures from the last couple weeks.

Along the trail, spring fed, so still open for a little ways

Redpoll posing

Very co-operative redpolls! Nice of them to pose for me.

The road home

Pretty grosbeak

snow formations along the creek

Lots of snow on the trees...about knee-high depth in the bush (woods, forest etc.)

Us

This is us at Christmas time. I think it turned out pretty well. I also think the photographer earned his money that day! Professional models we aren't!!!!

January 1, 2009

Happy New Year, and it's snowing again. Fortunately it's fairly mild, so not running back and forth to the woodstove too often.

Looking down the driveway. Plowing will be our project for tomorrow

Good day to stay inside...this is our house. I think there was some confusion over the other post with the picture of the house Bruce worked on somewhere else...

I'm intrigued with this guy's big toe...looks like it's missing skin on the claw?

Christmas 2008

Had a great day with the kids and Becky's "beau". Quite cold, but lots to do inside with new puzzles, games and dinner of course!

Boxing Day and more snow overnight, so back on the tractor for Bruce while Erin and I watched.

Actually Erin played in the snow, much nicer snow than she would ever find in Toronto!!!

November walk

Went for a walk today by the bay and along the river...

It's been pretty cool these days, and the rocks along the river edge were
cased in ice

Frosty clumps along the shoreline

Isn't this cute? He was eating something from the dogwood bushes,
not sure what...dried berries mayhaps

I've been remiss...so here you go!

I didn't realize it had been so long since I posted anything. Here are pictures of our exciting, action-packed lives since July. So, sit back and here we go! (It won't take too long).

Becky's 20th birthday with her bf Tyler

Deer in a marshy area

The two storey addition Bruce did. New livingroom, 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. The deck is attached to the old section.
Point Pelee boardwalk at Thanksgiving.

Erin and Bruce on the shore at Point Pelee

A Kingsville seagull...the excitement was unmanageable!

The arrival of the winter fuel. Only half of this was ours...thank goodness.
Bruce and Tyler have a splitting good time...Becky was supervising.

Only 2/3's of a pile left to go!

A frosty morning on the grasses in the field

A frosty daisy on the same morning in October

A foggy morning this week. Taken from our upper deck at about 11 a.m.

same fog...

Here a heron, there a heron....

Just when I thought my life couldn't get very much more exciting, it did! I was hired to sit beside the highway and observe the activities of great blue herons. I said for a total of 34 hours over a period of 3 days, making sure the birds were not unduly stressed by the activities of the highway crews. The gov't obviously thinks that this would be much more disturbing than the freight trains below them. For your information, I saw 2 birds.

This is the intrepid birder carrying out her task. Notice the essential camouflage necessary to blend into the trees so as to be unobserved by the very sensitive birds.

Look Susan! A heron...quick, take a picture!

The object of my affection...can you see it?
Don't feel bad, I couldn't either for the better part of 3 days!
(it is there)

The pulverizer, which made a slight whirring sound and spewed diesel fumes, didn't seem to bother the heron(s). I figure it was a break in the boredom of sitting in a poplar tree!
By the afternoon of the 3rd day, there was no sign of any birds...my job was done.
