Spring Shots...finally

Well, interspersed with cold, rainy days, we have actually seen the sun and had some warm days.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think these are ring-necked ducks? I figure the hunters in the family would know. They had a band around the end of their bill.

This young fella was outstanding in his field and quite obliging to have his picture taken. At one point he lay down and chewed away on the nice new grass.

Marsh Marigolds are finally blooming

So are the tiny little wild violets

Squirrel, very curious and scolding me the whole time I stood under his tree

This swallow was in our back yard perched on the chimney of our old wood stove

Black Bay on Lake Superior, an unusually calm moment

Nice pics Sue! Yes I agree with your identification of the ducks. They are not on my life list...can I count them even though you saw them? Guess not. We finally have a nesting pair of bluebirds in our box! We have been shooing away other would-be nesters waiting for their return. It paid off, although we still have to keep a lookout for a pair of house sparrows who periodically come and perch on the box. They are terrible birds!

I agree, although not as bad as starlings...just can't warm up to them. Our hummers are back, but the females are just perching on the feeders and shooing away the males. They look "plump", so I suspect the eggs are on the way. Miserable day here...snowing. I have never seen such big flakes.

Oddly enough there are very few house sparrows out here-this is where I would live if I was one. We do have a great pair of white crowned sparrows singing away in the back yard-sure wish they would nest in one of the several houses we have.
